During 1944 the City Hall building lot was the site of a Civil Defense air craft spotting tower. My maternal grandmother, Ann Hope Ordway was a volunteer plane spotter. At age eight I woould assist her by telling what model of aircraft was flying overhead. After the war the wooden tower was removed.
