Description
Construction of this school was undertaken in Lake Providence, Louisiana during the Great Depression with the assistance of funds provided by the Public Works Administration (PWA). The funding was allocated as part of a joint project with a training school in the same city. The brick school contained 20 classrooms, a gymnasium, offices, locker rooms, lavatories, and shower baths, and was completed at a cost of $140,093 (Monroe Morning World, 1937). The school was destroyed by fire in 1992 (Leighninger, 2007).
