Hartford-Brainard Airport Development – Hartford CT

Description

“Hartford-Brainard Airport, located in the city of Hartford, has historically been one of the busiest general aviation airports in the state. In 1921, a 350-acre cow pasture became the chosen site for what has been called the country’s first municipal airport.” (CTAirports)

The Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) contributed dramatically to the airport’s development, including the following: “Construct runways, turning circle, curbs, shoulders, catch basins, walks and fences at Brainerd Field.”

Official Project Number: 165‐1‐15‐117
