New Jersey’s Skylands Visitor website writes:
“During the 1920s the Army Corps of Engineers proposed the first of several flood control plans. The Works Projects Administration (WPA) followed in the 1930’s constructing drainage ditches and straightening and deepening the channel of Black Brook, which flows through the Great Swamp.”
