The Works Progress Administration built an armory in Mobile, circa 1937. The structure still serves as the Alabama National Guard Armory.

    My Dad was one of the worker on Fort Whiting. One of the supervisors- Mr. Rance Royal ( I think) taught him to read Blue print after work. . Dad always used the title Mr. when referring to him as he was very thankful to the gentleman. It really changed our lives. With the ability to read prints, he was able to build house and Ships during the War. My Dad was one of the success stories of the WPA.
