Description
Artist Caspar Duchow created four 4′ x 6′ mosaics depicting animals for the East Whittier Middle School: “Hippos,” “Waterfowl,” “Tropical Birds” and “Monkey.” The mosaics were created in 1937 with funding from the WPA Federal Art Project.

I was a student at this school in the late 1960s. I returned as the day custodian while I was in graduate school. These mosaics look familiar but I don’t remember where they were located. Were they downstairs in the cafeteria turned library?
