Description

“The Bartlett Experimental Forest (BEF) is a field laboratory for research on the ecology and management of northern hardwoods and associated ecosystems. The BEF is within the Saco Ranger District of the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. It is managed by RWU-4155 of the Northern Research Station. Research activities began at the Experimental Forest when it was established in 1931 and is 2,600 acres in size.

“The building program also was in full sway in the early 1930s. By 1934, the CCC crew at Bartlett had built the lodge and cottage, as well as several garages; the office may have been there before Forest Service acquisition.”
