New York Times Covers Sale of Sargent Johnson Sculpture by UC Berkeley

The dogged pursuit of this story by the Living New Deal’s Harvey Smith, who is also president of the National New Deal Preservation Association, paid off in national news coverage of the horrible blunder of the University of California, Berkeley, in selling off a million dollar New Deal artwork for peanuts.  Here is the New York Times story and here is our own post on the matter.

Richard A Walker is the director of the Living New Deal.

UC Berkeley is doing a great service to the country by mapping and cataloging the projects of the New Deal. I just spent a couple of days with 4 board members of the National New Deal Preservation Assoc. and learned more about the good work they are doing. We need to look to the New Deal for the lessons to be learned about the good works the government has done and that we continue to benefit from in thousands of ways.
