Brooklyn College benefitted from PWA additions

Brooklyn College

Did You Know?

Thanks to New Deal agencies, America's public education system expanded dramatically during the Great Depression. Within months, the Civil Works Administration employed 50,000 school teachers. The WPA built 5,900 schools and renovated 31,300 more, while the WPA and PWA together built new academic buildings and entire college campuses, as well as many public libraries. The National Youth Administration provided jobs for youth that enabled them to continue their education, while WPA and CCC educational initiatives lifted millions of Americans from functional illiteracy.
