  • Dorris City Hall - Dorris CA
    This city hall resides in the heart of downtown Dorris and along Hwy 97. It is a stone structure built in 1935 with funds provided by the WPA. The city hall was built for $20,000. No noticeable plaque was located on the outside of the building. There may be a plaque inside.
  • Fairfield Town Hall Improvements - Fairfield CT
    In 1935-36 the WPA worked on reconstruction and renovation of the historic 1794 Fairfield Town Hall building, including the addition of wings to both sides of building; basement improvements and utility upgrades; a new cupola to replace an older cupola that had been demolished; and the construction of a circular terrace at the rear of the building. The building presently houses an example of New Deal artwork, relocated from the former Fairfield main post office.
  • Fire Hall - Tappen ND
    This small stone building was constructed as the town hall and fire hall in 1938. A 2008 photo on flickr shows the building still standing, but the Living New Deal has not been able to confirm the building's exact location or current use.
  • Fire Station (demolished) Restoration - Carrizo Springs TX
    Construction through the Works Progress Administration (WPA) began in 1935 with 18" stone quarried from a nearby ranch and was completed in 1937. This building housed the Volunteer Fire Department downstairs and City Hall upstairs until the 1970's. As of 2017 "the walls are solid and still standing but interior walls, floors, and roof are in great disrepair." The building was demolished on August 19, 2020.

    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) completed construction of the former National Guard Armory in Falls City, Nebraska. "edicated on December 11, 1936. It was converted in 1972 to a City Hall and is currently the Falls City fire station."
  • Flushing Town Hall Improvements - Flushing NY
    The federal Works Progress Administration worked to conduct repairs and alterations to several civic buildings in Queens as part of a $300,464 project begun in 1935. Buildings improved included the historic Flushing Town Hall on Northern Blvd., which at the time was serving as a local courthouse.
  • Former City Hall - New Albany MS
    The New Albany City Hall was designed by Mississippi architect E. L. Malvaney, who designed many modernist buildings in the state. The two-story Art Deco style building (with Art Moderne characteristics) is a Mississippi State Landmark.     The Granville Town Board voted in 1940 to build a new Town Hall in Granville Center that would house the town offices, an auditorium, and the fire department. Work Projects Administration (WPA) labor built the project. Construction began Oct. 23, 1941 and the building was dedicated Oct. 10, 1942. Its original address was W. Good Hope Rd. and N.   • Gulfport Casino and Muncipal Pier - Gulfport FL
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built the Casino and Muncipal Pier in Gulfport FL. The marker on site states that, "The U.S. Department of the Interior has listed the Gulfport Casino in the National Register of Historic Places. This is the third such Casino on this location. The first fell in the 1921 hurricane; the second came down in the early 1930s. Using funds from the Works Progress Administration's Civil Works Authority.     Many of Hagerstown’s administrative offices are located in the Hagerstown City Hall.  According to a Maryland Historical Trust Inventory Form: “The Hagerstown City Hall is a Renaissance Revival style brick structure which was erected in 1939-1940 under the auspices of the federal government as a Public Works Administration project.”
  • Historic West Linn City Hall (West Linn City Hall) - West Linn OR
    At a cost of approximately $28,000, the Historic West Linn City Hall was completed in July 1936 with funds provided by both a Public Works Administration (PWA) grant and loan. Local voters approved a bond measure to reimburse the loan in 1936. The structure served as city hall from 1936 to 1999 when civic offices moved to their current location.   • Kaysville City Hall/Davis County Health Department (Former) - Kaysville UT
    The Kaysville City Hall was one of 226 New Deal buildings constructed in Utah. Of the 226, a total of five buildings were constructed in Davis County. The Kaysville City Hall is the only one of the five that is extant. In November of 1940, Kaysville Mayor Thornley K. Swan announced construction of a $55,000 city hall building. In 1941, a bond election was held. Part of the project ($20,000) was paid for by WPA funds.   • Kenmore-Tonawanda Municipal Building - Kenmore NY
    A historic marker at the Kenmore-Tonawanda Municipal Building reads: "Kenmore-Tonawanda Municipal Building Exemplifies the classical-monumental style of renowned architect E.B. Green. Erected in 1936 with ublic orks dministration funds to house the governing bodies of the Village of Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda, replacing the former Kenmore Union School building on this site." PWA Docket No. NY 1156-R granted $111,866 toward the project's construction, which began April 1936 and was completed June 1937. The project cost $251,258 in all.

  • Laurel Town Offices - Laurel DE

  • Lewiston Community Building - Lewiston UT
    The federal Public Works Administration (PWA) approved the provision of funds for the construction of a town hall in Lewiston, Utah in 1934. The building, now the Lewiston Community Building, was constructed between Nov. 1934 and Aug. 1935. The PWA supplied a grant of $16,008 for the project, whose final cost was $56,173.   • Longfellow School (former) Improvements - Millville MA
    The federal Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) conducted improvement work at the former Longfellow School (now town hall) in Millville, Massachusetts. Work included painting the exterior of the Longfellow School buildings, a project which "gave employment to 4 men for a period of eight weeks."
  • Lorimier School (former) - Cape Girardeau MO
    This school was constructed in part with funds provided by the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works in 1937, and bears the name of an important early town denizen. A well-constructed building, it has since been repurposed and, until recently, served as the Cape Girardeau City Hall and Municipal Court.  
  • Macon City Hall - Macon MS
    The small, one-story, red-brick Colonial Revival building was constructed as Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works (later renamed the PWA) Project Miss. 1366-F. It is part of the Macon Historic District. Mississippi architects P. J. Krouse and L. L. Brasfield, from Meridian designed the building. It was constructed by Mississippi builder/contractor John L. McLemore of Meridian.  
  • Mahnomen Fire and City Hall - Mahnomen MN
    The combination Fire Hall and City Hall in Mahnomen was built in 1937 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The structure was designed by George H. Carter and Company in WPA moderne style and built out of field stone hand-cut by WPA crews. It was listed in the National Register in 1988.

    "One of only 27 municipal buildings constructed by the WPA in Oklahoma... The old town hall of Meeker is located at 115 N. Fowler, a half-block off the main street. This is a one-story rectangular, native sandstone building, which is currently a private residence. The west-facing facade has a centered, 12-pane door, flanked by two deep-set window openings.   • Memorial Building (Town Hall) Improvements - Framingham MA
    Multiple New Deal agencies: the C.W.A., F.E.R.A, and W.P.A. funded labor for the improvement of Framingham's Memorial Building. The C.W.A. painted the offices and corridors of the Memorial Building in 1933. "The improvement in the looks of the building is marked," town officials wrote that year. Painting and varnishing continued in 1934. The W.P.A. relaid the floors at the banquet hall in Nevens Hall in 1938, while constructing new exits to conform with safety standards. (Additional painting took place this year as well.) The W.P.A. even constructed a wartime airplane-spotting Observation Post atop the building in 1942!

    Oxford, Massachusetts's Memorial Hall (city hall) received assistance from the federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the 1930s. The program provided labor for basement improvements and other repairs in 1935; other work was undertaken in 1938, 1939, and 1940.
  • Milwaukie City Hall - Milwaukie OR
    A Public Works Administration (PWA) grant provided approximately forty-four percent of the cost of constructing Milwaukie's City Hall in 1938. The simple Moderne style structure included space for the city's fire department as well as meeting the city's need for administrative office space. The red brick building was designed by Portland architect Walter E. Kelly with embellishment primarily at the entrance.     This stone building was a WPA project completed in 1937 as a schoolhouse. It was originally known as District #121, later known as the "Gunderson School" and rezoned as District #6. It is now used as the Moland Township Hall. The architects were two recent NDSU grads, Allen Carter and George Meineke.
  • Montville Town Hall (former) - Uncasville CT

    The historic Alliance Municipal Building was constructed between March 1936 and April 1937 with the aid of federal Public Works Administration (PWA) funds. The PWA provided a $78,189 grant for the project, whose total cost was $178,625. PWA Docket No. NE 1079 In August 1935, the Alliance City Council took steps toward securing a new municipal building for Alliance.     The building was initially built as a municipal building, but it was first rented by the state of Kansas to the National Guard for use as an armory for the headquarters of the 1st Battalion of the 137th Infantry of the National Guard.   • Municipal Building - Crafton PA
    "The building is part two stories and basement in height and has over-all dimensions in plan of 112 by 42 feet. It houses the municipal offices, the police and fire departments.
