    This classic New Deal post office was constructed with Treasury Department funding, in conjunction with Public Works Administration (PWA), in 1935. The building, PWA Federal Project 332, houses a series of New Deal murals. "On April 1, 1935 ground was broken for the present brick post office. In December 1935 equipment was moved into the building and the dedication was held December 13, 1935. The Colonial Revival building consists of a central, three-bay block flanked by smaller one-bay flat-roofed pavilions. It was constructed in 1935 and remains in active use."

    The Hyde Park Post Office "... is a stone building modeled on an early house in the region. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a native of Hyde Park, took a personal interest in the construction of the new building during the New Deal. A series of murals inside depict major events in local history. It was needed because of damage to the previous post office in the Long Beach earthquake of 1933 and cost $210,000 (Gnerre 2022) The design of this two-story building is Classical Moderne, with clean, square lines, flat roof tall window openings and a stucco finish. There are lovely bas-relief sculptures over the recessed front entrance and in the front window openings between stories.  There is a carved wooden mural inside.
