The historic post office building in Northumberland, Pennsylvania was constructed with federal Treasury Department funds and opened in 1941. The building, which houses a New Deal bas relief sculpture in its lobby, is still in use today.

The bas relief sculpture that hangs in the lobby of the Northumberland, Pennsylvania post office is entitled “Dr. Joseph Priestley.” Carved from red mahogany, the work was created by Dina Melicov and installed at the post office in 1942.
