  • Huron St. Public Bath (former) Improvements - Brooklyn NY
    The federal Works Progress Administration undertook a $93,900 project starting in 1935 to modernize and otherwise improve several public (now-former) bath facilities in Brooklyn, NY. The public baths on Huron St. (a few hundred feet west of Manhattan Avenue, on the north side of the road) were constructed in 1903-4; the baths closed in 1960, but the building is still standing. The facilities identified as part of the WPA project were: 209 Wilson Ave. Municipal Baths, Coney Island Duffield Street Hicks Street Pitkin Ave. Huron St. Montrose Ave.
  • Pitkin Ave. Public Bath (former) Improvements - Brooklyn NY

The public baths at 1752 Pitkin Ave. were constructed in 1903; the baths closed in 1949 and the building is privately owned. The facilities identified as part of the WPA project were: 209 Wilson Ave. Municipal Baths, Coney Island Duffield Street Hicks Street Pitkin Ave. Huron St. Montrose Ave.
  • Red Mountain Creek Bridge - Piercy CA
    In 1935, a bridge was built over Red Mountain Creek in rural Mendocino county south of Piercy along the old Redwood Highway (a piece of which appears to be renamed "Rosewarne Road"). The funds were granted by the federal government – probably the Bureau Public Roads – under the New Deal to the state of California Department of Highways. Later, Interstate 101 was built along the same route and the old bridge was removed.
  • Sunset Boulevard - Los Angeles CA
    In January 1935, California Highway and Public Works magazine reported that 3.2 miles of street had been resurfaced from Figueroa St to Hillhurst Avenue by a Federal Public Works project costing $65,000.
  • Roadside Park - Arkadelphia AR
    A roadside park near Arkadelphia, was constructed fall, 1936 as NYA Proj. 2777-Y-10. The exact location and current status of the park are unknown to the Living New Deal.
  • State Highway 99 W - Orland CA
    The federal government (probably the Bureau of Public Roads) provided $75,000 for grading and shoulders on 15 miles of the county road between Orland and Willows, closely paralleling the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks.  This is part of today's State Highway 99W, which runs north-south just east of Interstate 5.
  • National Zoo: Harvard Street Entrance - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) improved Harvard St. around the entrance to the National Zoo in 1935-36.
  • Chopin School Murals - Chicago IL
    Florian Durzynski painted two murals, "Stephen Foster" and "Frederic Chopin," for the Chopin School in 1940 with funding from the WPA Federal Art Project.
  • Old Town School of Folk Music Mural - Chicago IL
    The two 9' x 34' panels of the mural "The Children's World" were painted by Francis Coan with WPA Federal Art Project funds. They were moved from the Hild Library and restored in 1998.  
  • Bateman School Mural - Chicago IL
    This 7'11" x 11'6" mural "Characters from Children's Literature" was painted by Roberta Elvis with WPA Federal Art Project funds.
