  • Battery Kemble Park Improvements - Washington DC
    In 1936, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) conducted cleanup efforts at Battery Kemble Park, the site of a Civil War-era fort in the city's western corner. Crews removed underbrush, poisonous plants, and dead trees to make the park more welcoming to the public.
  • Stanton Park Improvements - Washington DC

Crews removed underbrush, poisonous plants, and dead trees to make the park more usable for the public. The park's redesign in 1933 was also likely done by the New Deal, but more evidence is needed.
  • Fort Slocum Park Improvements - Washington DC
    In 1936, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) conducted cleanup efforts at Fort Slocum Park, on the site of a Civil War-era fort, in the district's northeastern quadrant. Crews removed underbrush, poisonous plants, and dead trees to make the rustic park more salubrious for public use. The outline of the old earthworks of Fort Slocum are clearly visible in satellite view.
  • Rock Creek Park: Fort DeRussy Improvements - Washington DC
    The Works Progess Administration (WPA) did landscape cleanup around Fort DeRussy in Rock Creek Park.  Crews removed underbrush, poisonous plants, and dead trees from the old earthworks, which were then (and are now) heavily forested. Fort DeRussy is a Civil War-era fortification constructed in 1861 on a hilltop on the west side of Rock Creek, as part of the defenses of Washington. It is a trapezoidal earthwork with a perimeter of 190 yards and places for 13 guns. It is maintained today by the National Park Service. 
  • Marianna Municipal Airport - Marianna FL
    What became the Marianna Municipal Airport began as a WPA constructed runway in the 1930s, "as part of a 1930's airmail route between Jacksonville and New Orleans." The airport was further developed during World War II.
  • Recreation Center - Ackerman MS
    A Rustic Style building with walls of vertical logs is conjectured to have been constructed by the Emergency Relief Administration. Similarly styled log buildings were documented as constructed in other areas in Mississppi.
  • Chocktaw County Courthouse - Ackerman MS
    This historic, two-story Art Deco courthouse has been designated a Mississippi Landmark.
  • Ackerman High School - Ackerman MS
    Ackerman High School is a 2-story Art Moderne building dating to 1941. Currently closed, the school was PWA Project Miss. 1156.
  • National Guard Armory (former) - Aberdeen MS
    This 2-story Art Moderne building was constructed by the WPA in 1938, and from 1939 to 1940 served as the armory for Company G, 155th Infantry. It is currently used to house the City Parks and Recreation Department.
