    In 1936 the WPA developed the area of Carlos Avery Game Farm, now the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area, and constructed several buildings on the site. From the National Register of Historic Places nomination: Located within the 23,000 acre Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area, the district includes eleven buildings, three structures, and one non-contributing building. The buildings at the Game Farm are designed in the Colonial Revival Style. All buildings and structures are considered contributing unless otherwise noted. 1.   • Knoop Park - Little Rock AR
    From the Arkansas Times: “Originally developed in the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project, Knoop Park offers visitors hiking trails and picnic tables. The park is known for its striking vistas.”
  • Greenhaven Golf Course - Anoka MN
    WPA crews constructed the Greenhaven Golf Course, originally a nine-hole course, in 1937. It is now part of Greenhaven Country Club.
  • Lake Jonesco Golf Course - Gray GA
    According to the Jones County governmental website, “The original 9-hole layout was designed and built in 1939 by the WPA in conjunction with the Jonesco Clubhouse. The original construction included two small lakes, a pavilion, a swimming and diving facility and male and female bathhouses which were used by the general public until the mid 1960’s.”
  • Orangebrook Golf Course - Hollywood FL
    The FERA started and the WPA completed the Orangebrook Golf Course (which has since been expanded).  
  • Rock Manor Golf Course Expansion - Wilmington DE
    WPA crews expanded this course, circa 1936. A news story from the time stated: "construction work enlarging Rock Manor public course resumed with additional WPA funds."
  • Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course - Fairfield CT
    FERA started and the WPA completed the construction of these two 18-hole golf courses between 1933 and 1940.
  • Pueblo City Golf Course - Pueblo CO
    In 1937, the WPA constructed this golf course for the city of Pueblo. Evidence indicates that the Army Corps of Engineers may have contributed. The course is now known as the Elmwood Golf Course.
  • Forest Park Golf Course - Baltimore MD
    In 1936, WPA crews expanded the Forest Park Golf Course from 9 holes to 18 holes.
  • Beauregard Regional Airport - DeRidder LA
    According to the Beauregard Tourist Commission, “This project in a stump littered field provided employment for about 400 men, who worked to clear what had once been a densely wooded region. They constructed two earthen runways on 160 acres of land leased from the owner.”
