They were Roosevelts—American royalty, two of the most renowned and admired women in the country.
First cousins, they were the best of frienemies.
The famed First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt and presidential daughter, Alice Roosevelt Longworth, consummate Washington insider, differed on politics—and just about everything else.
Abrams conjures the celebrated cousins at eight key points in their lives; from Eleanor’s engagement in 1904 and Alice’s in 1905, through elections, wars and family crises, until Eleanor’s final illness in 1962. The women feud, laugh, commiserate and try to understand one another.
