From our friends at the San Francisco Public Library:
The New Deal built much of the public realm we love in San Francisco, particularly in the arts, architecture, and parks. This slide show By Harvey Smith of the Living New Deal will place the West Portal Library into the context of that intense period of creativity. You will see the big picture of how the arts took off with New Deal support in the 30s and 40s, leading to the vibrantly art-centered city we and visitors from around the world still enjoy. Mr. Smith will also address the question, given the current climate, of what will be the fate of the arts in San Francisco going forward.
Harvey’s talk begins at 4:00 pm.
