• Knox County Courthouse - Benjamin TX
    The WPA provided labor for the construction of the Knox County Courthouse and a school in Benjamin, Texas. The courthouse, built in stone in the Moderne style by the firm of Voelcker & Dixon, was constructed at a cost of $95,337.
  • Newport School - Newport TX
    A three classroom school was constructed in Newport, Texas during the Great Depression with the assistance of funds from the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The ranch-style rock building was constructed to replace a frame school that had previously been destroyed by fire. Two of the classrooms were separated by a sliding partition that could be opened to create an auditorium. The WPA funded $5,762 of the approximate $9,000 cost of construction.  
  • Oliver School - Stamford TX
    Buff Brick building with tower above the entrance with the name "Oliver School". Decorative cement work around the entrance. The plaque at entrance says: "FEDERAL EMERGENCY ADMINISTRATION OF PUBLIC WORKS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HAROLD L. ICKES ADMINISTRATOR OF PUBLIC WORKS OLIVER SCHOOL 1939" A passage in Corsicana newspaper article with title of "Texas is Granted Additional Funds for PWA Project" tells us the Stamford was awarded $40,500 in 1938 to build a school.
  • School (former) - Bunger TX
    Bunger school was PWA project W1255. Construction was started February 17, 1936 and completed June 3, 1936 for a total cost of $11,853. Bid was awarded to Mont Groves of Olney. The former school is rock veneer. Voelcker & Dixon were architects. The building is currently undergoing renovation, apparently for use as a residence.
