  • MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History - Little Rock AR
    Constructed in 1840, the Tower Building, "the only surviving remnant of the Little Rock Arsenal," was traded by the federal government to the City of Little Rock for 1,000 acres and the "condition that the grounds be 'forever exclusively devoted to the uses and purposes of a public park.'" The building remained vacant until the late 1930s when workers, sponsored by a grant from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) renovated the structure, leading to its opening in 1942 as the Museum of Natural History and Antiquities.   • Clinton Public School Complex (former) - Clinton MS
    Listed among the Works Progress Administration (WPA) projects in Mississippi in 1942 was the Clinton School complex (Progress public works in state). "The old elementary building at this campus was built as the last gasp of the Federal Works Agency and maintained its Colonial Revival style and intact auditorium space" (Mississippi Landmarks, 2010). When the school system abandoned the buildings on the site in favor of new construction, they were purchased by Mississippi College, who demolished them in 2013 to construct new residences for student housing (City of Clinton Planning and Zoning Commission, 2013; Mississippi College constructs new residence halls...
  • Moss Point High School - Moss Point MS
    The two-story Art Deco design high school was approved for $195,000 in Works Progress Administration funds, and the city provided the remaining $130,000 to construct the school (Watson, nd). The building still serves the community as the Moss Point High School.
  • McKinley County Courthouse (former): Wilton Mural - Gallup NM
    "The McKinley County Courthouse, itself a New Deal arts project, houses 19 pieces of New Deal art, and murals, tile work, lamps, and furniture by New Deal artists and crafts workers grace the courthouses interior." (www.co.mckinley.nm.us) "Inside the lobby, Indian motifs are featured in the tile wainscoting, lettered signs, pendant lighting fixtures, and Pueblo-style paintings on the plaster walls, all set off by hand-made wooden furniture and oil paintings by New Mexican artists."(www.co.mckinley.nm.us/courthouse_project.htm) One of the WPA Federal Art Projects murals in the building is this 1942 mural "The Zuni Potters" by Anna Keener Wilton.
  • Bob Hope Patriotic Hall Mural - Los Angeles CA
    "Soldiers and Sailors is a three panel painted mural in the vestibule of Bob Hope Patriotic Hall. Created in 1942 as part of the WPA Art Project, the mural depicts the United States’ military uniforms from 1776 through 1941. Helen Lundeberg also created three WPA murals in 1942 for Patriotic Hall but those have since been lost." (LACounty Arts Commission.)

    Julius Woeltz painted this 12' x 6' oil on canvas mural, entitled "The Bauxite Mines," in 1942 for the Treasury Section of Fine Arts. The mural was originally installed in the Benton post office and it now hangs in the Saline County Courthouse. From the Benton Courier: "The mural's early history is profiled in a publication, titled 'Postmasters: Arkansas Post Office Art in the New Deal,' by John Purifoy Gill.   • Post Office Bas Relief - Northumberland PA
    The bas relief sculpture that hangs in the lobby of the Northumberland, Pennsylvania post office is entitled "Dr. Joseph Priestley." Carved from red mahogany, the work was created by Dina Melicov and installed at the post office in 1942.
  • Park Road 4 - Burnet TX
    Park Road 4 is a 15.5-mile, two-lane scenic parkway that extends west from U.S. Highway 281 and terminates at State Highway 29 to the west of Burnet. It travels through Longhorn Cavern State Park and skirts the eastern edge of Inks Lake State Park.     The historic post office building in Portland, Connecticut was constructed using federal Treasury Department funds. A Section of Fine Arts mural hangs in the lobby. The building, which was completed in 1942, is still in use today.

    Completed in 1942, this Work Projects Administration building features native Missouri stone and concrete. The building was designed by architect Mason C. Abbitt from Jefferson City, MO. Construction occurred in two stages and the facility includes a county jail.
