  • School Gymnasium (ruins) - Comanche OK
    Located on Walnut Avenue West of 4th Street are the ruins of a school gymnasium. It was constructed of native sandstone, and WPA shields at several locations on the concrete sidewalks show the date 1939. The building was one-story, with a two-story section on the east side. The roof was barrel shaped and the metal framing is all that is left. Windows around the building were large 20-pane casement windows. Among the rubble inside the building are the remains of concrete bleachers on either side of the gym floor. An outside 16-step staircase leads up the hill to the building.
  • Popes Chapel School - Warner OK
    The Works Progress Administration built the Popes Chapel School in Warner. This  4-room, single story school measuring 49 x 55 feet is constructed of irregular blocks of red sandstone. It is currently a private home, though the alterations in the structure have not changed the school significantly. The school was designed by the Oklahoma State Department of Instruction.
  • Fire Station 3 (former) - Muskogee OK
    The Public Works Administration helped to fund the construction of the former Muskogee Fire Department Fire Station 3, located on West Okmulgee Ave. The 3-bay fire station has two large bays for fire trucks and a smaller bay to the west. It features a white Deco/Moderne design, replete with a curved wall with windows on the east side, concrete lettering above the doors, a flat roof, and horizontal striping of contrasting dark color. It presently houses the Muskogee Habitat for Humanity store and offices. PWA Docket No. OK 1279
  • William A. Wirt School - Gary IN
    The Public Works Administration funded the construction of a public school in Gary in 1939. The structure was altered with an addition in the 1960s.
  • Culvert - Schulter OK
    This culvert is stamped with a Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) shield in the top of the curbing on either side of the road. The culvert runs north-south with the tunnel approximately 3 ft. high and 5 ft. wide. It crosses CR E1040 (Bramble Street). It is located southwest of town and handles water run-off. We did not see any creek nearby.
  • Gymnasium - Hico TX
    The Works Progress Administration built a two room combination gymnasium, auditorium and school with cut stone masonry walls on a concrete foundation in Hico, Texas between 19398 and 1939. The official project number was 65-1-66-93.
  • West Lawn Cemetery Wall - Henryetta OK
    The rock wall along the south and east sides of the West Lawn Cemetery in Henryetta, Oklahoma were constructed by the WPA in 1939. The wall is approximately 40 inches high with large square rock pillars about every 12 feet. The wall is 3/10 of a mile long. The cemetery is located in the western part of Henryetta.  
  • Community Center - Clearview OK
    This one-story red brick building was completed in 1939 by the Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA). The school has long been gone. The building which is located on Douglas Avenue in the northwest part of Clearview, is currently being used as the Community Center. A porch has been added to the front, and remodeling has been done on the interior, including adding dropped ceilings, a dining area and kitchen facilities.   • N 8th and Boston Culvert - Okemah OK
    At the intersection of N. 8th and Boston in a residential area, there are two WPA culverts which pass under 8th Street east to west. One culvert has the WPA shield stamped 1939 at either end; the other does not. The culverts are constructed of large cut stones, and have curbing that is quite tall vertically. The openings are approximately 3 ft. by 5 ft.
  • 8th and Denver Culvert - Okemah OK
    This culvert was completed in 1939 by the Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA). It runs north-south and crosses Denver on the east side of N. 8th. The tunnel is constructed using large cut block, and the opening is approximately 3 ft. by 5 ft. The curbing at each end is stamped with the WPA shield indicating 1939.
