  • Armory (former) - Greenville MS
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) allotted $30,379 to construct a new National Guard Armory in 1938. N. W. Overstreet and A. H. Town were architects for the two-story, reinforced concrete Art Deco style building. The lower floor was devoted to Battery A of the 114th Field Artillery and regimental headquarters, battalion headquarters, instructors’ office, classroom, caretakers’ office and other rooms occupied the second floor. Work began in December 1938 and required seven months of construction. WPA workers also had to demolish two buildings at the site prior to construction beginning.   • Dixie Springs Lake - Summit MS
    The Dixie Springs Lake was one of the first projects initiated in Pike County by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Work began in early November 1935 when 20 men began clearing the site. Efforts were made for early completion of the Dixie Springs Lake project, which was also sponsored by the State Game and Fish Commission and would serve as a refuge for waterfowl and for fish breeding.   • Lyons Water Treating Plant (former) - Lyons NE
    The utilities building in Lyons, Nebraska located at the northeast corner of Main St. and 1st St. was constructed as a federal Public Works Administration (PWA) project. It was originally built as a water treatment facility. The structure is currently still used as a utility shed for the City of Lyons.
  • Lake Bogue Homa - Laurel MS
    Mississippi State Game and Fish Commission sponsored the Works Progress Administration to create a number of lakes for recreation purposes. Near Laurel, Lake Gates was approximately 1500 acres, fed by the Boguehoma Creek. The project began in 1936, and was completed in 1939. At some point by 1947, the name had been changed to Lake Bogue Homa. The lake remains an active fishing location and has been improved over the years.
  • Tenth Street NE Improvements - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) improved a segment of Tenth Street NE, from Michigan Avenue to Taylor Street. This was a WPA curb and gutter project: “The improvement of this roadway provided a main thoroughfare to the private developments and business in this vicinity.”
  • Barnaby Street NW Improvements - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) improved a segment of Barnaby Street NW, from Utah Avenue to Arcadia Place. This was a WPA curb and gutter project: “This project was 1,200 feet long and serves the recent developments in this vicinity.”
  • Thirty-first Street NW Improvements - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) improved a segment of Thirty-first Street NW from Utah Avenue to Worthington Street. This was a WPA curb and gutter project: “This roadway, together with the roadway of Barnaby Street… constitute main thoroughfares to the recent development of the subdivision known as Barnaby Woods.”
  • Michigan (former Concord) Avenue NW Improvements - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) improved a segment of Concord Avenue N, from North Capitol Street to Third Street.  This was a WPA curb and gutter project: “This constitutes the first step in the development of this roadway to connect North Capitol Street and Georgia Avenue.” Concord Avenue was later renamed Michigan Avenue and further improvements have been made.
  • Montana Avenue NE Improvements - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) improved a segment of Montana Avenue NE, from Bladensburg Road to New York Avenue. The WPA graded this road, and also prepared it for paving with a foundation of salvaged material: “The old material is obtained from old roadways which have deteriorated due to the strain of heavy later-day traffic and were replaced by new standard type pavements.” Also, “The improvement of this roadway constituted a short cut from the northeast to the southeast section of the city. It permits traffic to avoid the heavily traveled intersection of Bladensburg Road and New York Avenue.”
  • Linnean Avenue NW Improvements - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) improved a segment of Linnean Avenue NW, Ellicott Street to Broad Branch Road. The WPA graded this road, and also prepared it for paving with a foundation of salvaged material: “The old material is obtained from old roadways which have deteriorated due to the strain of heavy later-day traffic and were replaced by new standard type pavements.” Also, “This was an entirely new development and it formed a link between Broad Branch Road and the paved portion of Linnean Avenue at Ellicott Street thus opening up a short cut from the section north of Broad Branch Road to...
