• Post Office Mural - Louisville MS
    The mural, "Crossroads," was installed in 1938. Karl Wolfe of Jackson, MS was one of only three Mississippi artists commissioned by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts for one of the 28 works installed in the state. He was paid $310 for the painting and installation (Black, 1998).

    The post office contains two 5.5' x 7' cast aluminum sculptures covered with gold foil by Robert I. Russin. "Mail Handler" and "Throwing the Mail" were completed with Treasury Section of Fine Arts funds in 1938.

  • Harper School Murals - Wilmette IL
    Gustaf Dahlstrom painted two 9' x 26' murals for the Laurel School: "Gardening" and "Animals and Flowers." They were completed with WPA Federal Art Project funds in 1938. They were moved to the Harper School from the Laurel School in 1973.
  • Post Office Mural - Wilmette IL
    This painting "In the Soil Is Our Wealth" by Raymond Breinin was completed with Treasury Section of Fine Arts funds in 1938.
  • National Zoo: Warneke Sculpture - Washington DC
    Heinz Warneke created a red granite sculpture for the National Zoo, entitled "Tumbling Bears," in 1938.  It sits at the bottom of a hill near the Large Cat area.  A plaque on the sculpture calls it Tumbling Bears, but it is also known as the "Wrestling Bear Cubs" and "Wrestling Bears."   • National Zoo: Springweiler Sculpture - Washington DC
    Erwin Springweiler’s bronze statue, “Great Anteater,” was mounted at the National Zoo in 1938.  It stands in front of the Small Mammal House. Springweiler was able to work from a live anteater at the zoo and from skeletons and furs at the American Museum of Natural History.  The statue is six feet long and three feet high. It was funded by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts. The anteater statue was unveiled at the zoo on March 25, 1938, with a formal presentation to Dr. William M.   • Post Office - Williamston NC
    The Williamston Post Office opened in 1939, and was built with funding from the Treasury Department. It also houses a mural by Phillip Von Saltza depicting the Wright Brothers' first airplane test flight.
  • Post Office - Wrightsville GA
    The Wrightsville Post Office was built in 1938 with New Deal funding. The lobby also houses a relief by Earl Thorp, entitled "Transition."
