  • Modjeska Sculpture - Anaheim CA
    The Public Works of Art Project (PWAP) and the State Emergency Relief Administration (SERA), along with local sources (Rotary Club and City of Anaheim), funded a sculpture of actress Helena Modjeska. The sculpture was created by Eugene Maier-Krieg in 1934 and resides in the northeast corner of Pearson Park in Anaheim, California. Modjeska was an actress who first immigrated to Anaheim, CA from Poland. She went on to stardom as a Shakespearean actress, regularly touring the country.   • Dugway Road Improvement - Clifton ID
    The Civil Workers Administration (CWA) improved a road into Clifton Basin located above the town about 4 miles. The overall length of the improved route was about a mile long and allowed a smoother, less steep, and less dangerous route into the National Forest lands of Clifton Basin and beyond. Presumably, part of the reason for the improved route was to make the harvesting of fuel for homes in the form of trees much more convenient. This project was awarded via the CWA as Clifton Wood Road Project 21 B1-15 in 1933.

    The Civil Works Administration (CWA) constructed 3,100 feet of water mains in Hopkinton, Iowa: "bout 500 feet near the school, a 300-foot extension just south of the business section and several blocks running east to the water tower ... In this latter stretch it was necessary to dynamite solid rock the entire depth of the ditch for 300 feet."

    The Civil Works Administration (CWA) conducted an improvement project at what was then the school in Colesburg, Iowa. The location and status of the facility is unknown to Living New Deal. Redecoration of the Colesburg school is nearing completion. By availing themselves of CWA help, school officials have succeeded in redecorating 65,000 square feet of walls and ceiling and 4,000 square feet of floor space in an addition at an estimated cost to the district of $250. The older section of the school is receiving a partial redecoration. ... Two hundred gallons of paint will be used.

    The Civil Works Administration (CWA) completed a project "painting the second ward school building," in Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe), Pennsylvania in Jan. 1934. The second ward of the city was known as Upper Mauch Chunk. The location and status of the school is unknown to Living New Deal.
