Long Beach Sites

The federal Work Projects Administration worked to improve Broadway in Long Beach, New York during the 1930s. One project called for the "surfacing constructing sidewalks, curbs, and leaching basins."

The federal Work Projects Administration worked to improve Ocean Beach and many of its attendant facilities during the 1930s. One project called for the reconstruction of "life guard stations, comfort stations, locker rooms, restaurants, and fences."

The historic post office building in Long Beach, New York "was built in 1936 and designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect under the direction of Louis A. Simon. It is a one-story, symmetrically massed building faced with red brick in the Colonial Revival style. It features a central five-bay-wide section with a gable roof, flanked by single bay end pavilions with gable roofs perpendicular to the central section." (Wikipedia) The building became also houses an example of New Deal artwork, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The historic post office building in Long Beach, New York houses a New Deal mural commissioned by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts: "The Pleasures of the Bathing Beach," painted by Jon Corbino. The mural was installed in 1939.
