  • Post Office (former) - Somerville MA
    The former branch post office at 237 Washington St. in downtown Somerville, Massachusetts was constructed with federal funds. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, the building was constructed in 1934 or 1935. It has since been sold. The lobby of the old post office contains a New Deal mural entitled "A Skirmish between Bristish and Colonists," which was painted in 1939 by Ross E. Moffett.

WPA Bulletin: WPA skilled and unskilled laboring men are engaged in laying 17 miles of sewage pipe, in Somerville. More than 1200 men have been engaged on this project at one time. More than 22,000 men and women are employed by WPA in the district.

    A previous iteration of the Wellington Bridge, which carried Fellsway across Mystic River between Somerville and Medford, was constructed as a New Deal-sponsored P.W.A. project. "The completion of the Wellington Bridge, constructed under the authorization of Chapter 365 of the Acts of 1933 as a Public Works Administration Project, is a fine example of a public improvement made possible through Federal aid."
