• Flagler Memorial Bridge (former) - Palm Beach to West Palm Beach FL
    Palm Beach's old Flagler Memorial Bridge was constructed as a federal Public Works Administration (PWA). The PWA supplied a $398,750 loan and $326,455 grant for the project, whose total cost was $735,490. Construction began in Jan. 1937 and completed in Jun. 1938. In 2014 the bridge was undergoing replacement and demolition. PWA Project No. 1085-D. The project is sometimes mis-attributed to another New Deal agency, the WPA.     "In 1939 the Treasury Department’s Section of Fine Arts contracted Dohanos to paint six murals depicting the “Legend of James Edward Hamilton, Mail Carrier” in the West Palm Beach, Florida Post Office.  Hamilton was one of the “barefoot mailmen,” letter carriers who worked a remote stretch of rural Florida in the 1880s – a 68-mile roadless and part-by-boat route from Palm Beach to Miami, much of it by beach walking.  The round trip of 136 miles from Palm Beach to Miami and back took six days.  Hamilton mysteriously disappeared on the route, either drowned, taken by alligator, or some say,...

    "The Old West Palm Beach National Guard Armory (also known as the Palm Beach County Armory) is a historic site in West Palm Beach, Florida, United States. It is located at 1703 South Lake Avenue. On June 11, 1992, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Armory building was constructed in 1939 in Art Deco style by architect William Manley King with Works Progress Administration (WPA) funds. It was occupied by the National Guard Armory from 1939-1982."
