Description
Originally constructed as an armory, what is now the Fort Decatur Recreation Center was constructed in 1938 with federal funds. The building “was designed by Carolyn Cortner Smith, Alabama’s first licensed female architect.”
Living New Deal believes the Works Progress Administration (WPA) provided support for construction of the armory.
